Crypto ETF Fee Comparison: Coins per $1,000 and Fee Drag Over 1, 5 and 10 Years

All spot funds for the same coin hold the same thing. The big difference is the fee, which is paid in coins. Here is how much each fee takes.

FAQ

Does a cheaper bitcoin ETF give me more bitcoin?

At the start, no. At NAV, $1,000 buys about the same amount of bitcoin in every fund. Over time, yes: the lower the fee, the less bitcoin is taken out of each share each year.

How much does the fee difference matter over 10 years?

On $10,000 with a flat bitcoin price, MSBT (0.14%) would use up about 1.4% of your bitcoin in 10 years, while GBTC (1.50%) would use up about 13.9%.

What about staking funds?

Some ether and Solana funds stake their coins and keep part of the rewards, which can add coins and offset the fee. This comparison counts fees only, so it understates staking funds.
